BSA Crime Alert

On Wednesday this week at about 15.00, two armed men followed a resident in Francois Avenue into his property after he opened the gate and drove in, and attempted to hi-jack his car.
Please be very cautious when you enter your property. If possible, fit an electric gate so that you don't have to get out of your car. Don't get out of the vehicle until your gate closes behind you.
We will be discussing important security issues at the meeting on Thursday 13 March - please attend!

Warning - precast walls

There was an attempted break in at 28 Pierre Ave on Saturday evening at about 22h30. It seems that the suspect attempted to gain access to the property by removing a slab from the precast wall.

Incidents of this kind are becoming increasingly common and Bordeaux South residents who have precast walls should take extra care. If you can:

  • make sure your perimeter is well lit (report broken street lights!)
  • install beams in your garden which are linked to your alarm
  • replace or re-plaster your wall to prevent panels being removed.

Eskom Impersonation Alert!

Please be aware we are seeing increasing incidences of criminals impersonating representatives from various companies such as Telkom, Eskom, security agencies, banking institutions, etc. in order to gain access into residential homes.

The latest incident took place in Helderkruin, where two men posed as Eskom employees carrying out standard checks. Three laptops were stolen and the ADT alarm system was also tampered with.

ADT encourages all clients to ensure that your domestic staff understand the danger of allowing strangers into your property. If there is any doubt as to the validity of the visitor, your domestic worker should be advised to contact you immediately to verify the request or, alternatively call the ADT control room on 086 12 12 400 for assistance.

Please also be aware of another group of armed criminals who enter estates or complexes under the guise of representing financial institutions to conduct evaluations or inspections.

At times, this group of criminals has also been known to pose as meter readers from a company called "African Meter Readers", or they use a service provider such as Johannesburg Water, City Power or Eskom as their identity. ADT has instructed guards to inspect the boot of all vehicles before allowing entry as it is believed that this is the modus operandi used for gaining access.

It is also believed that this gang has access to a variety of vehicles and change vehicles within minutes from site to site. The list below gives a guideline of the vehicles believed to be in use. Please note however that there may be additional vehicles.
